Multicultural Services

More than 200 fonts have been installed on the NSW.net terminals to enable browsing in languages other than English. See the languages listed below.

If you discover a website that is not supported, please complete the NSW.net Inquiry Form or call 1800 679 638. It would help if you could provide the following information:

Please note that NSW.net cannot supply fonts that have their usage restricted through licencing and / or fees.

The languages listed below were listed in the 1996 and 1991 Census as the 30 languages most commonly spoken at home in NSW, and the fastest growing language groups in NSW.

Please note that NSW.net cannot guarantee that all websites in a particular language are accessible. NSW.net has no control over which of the large amount of available fonts a website builder chooses to use. (Displaying languages is dependant on the use of fonts, of which there is a large and varied supply). We will do what we can to act on any suggestions about installing extra fonts if you find a website is inaccessible from a NSW.net terminal due to missing fonts.

Security

The NSW.net security profile installed on the computers has the following restrictions on the 'nswnet' login (public user access) to prevent anyone tampering with the functionality of the PC or your Local Network:

In short, all that public users can do is surf the internet, operate Zoomtext and save and open files on the floppy drive. They should also be able to operate applications that have been installed under the administrator login. Everything else has been removed to ensure there is no tampering with the PC.

Re-installing the NSW.net Disk Image

If you encounter problems that make you want to reinstall from scratch, NSW.net will provide a bootable CD that will reinstall the entire Standard Operating Environment. It will come with instructions for conducting the reinstallation.

Feedback on the PCs and the disk image is welcome. If you think something should be included on the next disk image update please let us know by phone on 1800 679 638 or complete the NSW.net Inquiry Form.
