Interest Groups

Communities of Interest (Mimerdesk) Project

In 2006, NSW.net commenced the Communities of Interest project to assess if web-based communications and networking tools could facilitate and support public library special interest groups in their efforts to collaborate and communicate effectively and efficiently.

This project involved the 12 month trial of the Mimerdesk open source software. This software was designed to facilitate communication, group interaction, and to enable information/file sharing.

Groups who participated in the trial included the Public Libraries Evaluation Group (PLEG), NSW.net User Group, the Reference Excellence-NSW Group and the Corporate Librarians group.

Functionality tested during the trial included: a moderated discussion forum, event calendaring, shared document/object storage, messaging, and online polling.

The project ended on 30 June 2007. For further information about this project, please contact Joyce Azzopardi jazzopardi@sl.nsw.gov.au, Tel. (02) 9273 1524.
