Frequently Asked Questions - Databases

Q. How do you evaluate what databases should be included in those provided by NSW.net?

A. The content of databases is evaluated using selection criteria established by the NSW.net Content Evaluation Working Party. This group consists of Zone Representatives from each zone in NSW who meet several times each year. Members select databases for possible inclusion and evaluate them using Selection Criteria

Offers are made on the basis of evaluations by the Content Evaluation Working Party and from member feedback arising from the free trials which are organised.

Q. What cooperation, if any, is occurring between ILANET and NSW.net regarding the delivery (and possible duplication) of Content to Public Libraries? - there is the issue here of different pricing models.

ILANET operates on a pay by use model. NSW.net provides subscribed databases, which means that they are always available for use by those who use public libraries. Pay as you use is risky for public use as the cost would probably need to be recovered by the library. ILANET and NSW.net are working together to provide a complete service delivery model for online databases to public libraries and their users. This would include both pay as you use and subscribed options.
