Key Facts & Achievements
- NSW.net is an initiative of The State Library of New South Wales. It has managed a network for councils and public libraries across NSW, which provides subsidised access to the Internet, since 1997.
- NSW.net has been endorsed as the preferred carrier or network for NSW local governments accessing online services.
- In 2001/02 NSW.net distributed over 700 PCs with internet access to public libraries across NSW, greatly increasing community access to the Internet.
- The NSW.net User Group was formed in 2002 to encourage communication and collaboration between NSW.net users and the NSW.net Team.
- NSW.net provides free access to three quality statewide online databases to all public library services and their users, and discounted subscriptions to other online resources. NSW.net provides access to ANZ RC, Australian Standards Online and the Health & Wellness Resource Center.
- In 2001 the Rural Link project, an initiative of the State Library of New South Wales, was funded by the Commonwealth Networking the Nation program.
- NSW.net managed the Rural Link project which established high speed internet and online access for public and/or not-for-profit community institutions in 75 small towns across rural and remote NSW.
